Music has always been an important force in the life of Morris Hayes. As a child growing up in Jefferson, Arkansas,
music in the church touched his soul and inspired what would become a life long passion. Mr.Hayes got his big
break in music in 1991 when he was hired to replace Jimmy Jam who played keyboards with The Time. After
touring Asia, Mr.Hayes formed a band called “G Sharp and the Edge.”The band got the job as the “Glam Slam”
band at a Minneapolis nightclub owned by Prince.
Prince recognized Mr.Hayes’ talent and hired him to play in his band, “The New Power Generation.” Mr.Hayes
played keyboards in the NPG for ten years, working his way up to Musical Director of the band. He has also
performed with many musical legends of our time including Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, George Clinton, Larry
Graham, Chaka Khan, Carlos Santana, Lenny Kravitz, Eve, Ani DiFranco, Doug E. Fresh, Stevie Wonder, ?uestlove,
Kool Moe Dee, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani, Angie Stone, D’Angelo, Common, Erika Badu, Bono and the Edge,
Macy Grey, Debra Cox, Mica Paris and Mint Condition.
The multi-talented Mr.Hayes has produced tracks for numerous artists and continues to write, produce, record and
perform.
